Two Torque Monsters...E55/Viper
Previous owner of my car said he had the fuel sender unit replaced. No way to verify I guess unless from the VIN by MB. I've not had the fuel smell, but assume I should take it in for verification? Didn't read the 22pages so apologies if this has been discussed.

If there is no leaks, the dealer will charge you labor just for checking.

Anyone have a good experience at a Chicago area dealer? I'd like to get a whole new tank and rental and not have to jump through hoops or play games.

2005 E55
Looking at 7 weeks.....
I took my 2005 E55 into the dealer last Friday and was informed today that they won't be able to get the tank assembly until the middle of June.
I have had a loaner (C300 4Matic) but will get my beast back this week. The C300 is nice and I like some of the tech that I don't have in E55, but I miss the gas pedal the most.

JoeNobody...yeah...apparently an order was placed for me and I plan to get my car back this week. Will continue to drive it, I just won't fill it up past 3/4 tank, which is a level that seems to work to avoid the fumigating the cabin.

Murray motors in denver knew about the warranty. SA said to bring car in they'll look at it and the parts are on backorder for about 2 months if they deem it under the warranty. she said they have seen a few which aren't covered but most are...

I'm in the DFW area. Just got a call from my SA at Park Place Grapevine that my E55 is done (2 days) with ALL new parts. Luckily they had an extra tank/pump/sending unit available dude to the customer before me couldn't make it in for another couple of weeks. Needless to say it was zero hesitation on MBs part. Although the sister facility (PP Fort Worth) had no clue what I was talking about. Get it done ASAP cuz the gas fume will get annoying after a while.

Most of you have been fortunate with the quick turn-around times. I just passed the 12 week mark since dropping it off at the dealer. They've been more than accommodating by giving me a '15 C-Class loaner and then upgrading me to a '15 E-Class. They've also kept tabs and mentioned that the case had been escalated to certain departments to expedite the part procurement. Spring is here and I just miss driving it.

Just bought the beast a few weeks back and already it has been sitting in the dealership lot for the fuel tank replacement for over two weeks... The dealership has had the beast longer than I have /sigh. Looking like it will take a couple months for the replacement parts after reading this thread.

As long as it's leaking when you bring it in, then it's failing and needs replacing.
But instead, wait until July or so when parts supply has caught up, and you'll face much less resistance getting it fixed.

I am not in the area, but I had a live chat with a MB rep on the MB website and gave them my
vin and they sent me a email with the warranty info, 2 days later had my car at dealership and fixed in a week, new tank, new sender, etc.

Naples Mercedes Benz has been great, they diagnosed the problem and indicated they would replace the tank, pump, and all related items. Offered a loaner but I didn't want to leave the car. After a month and a half the gas smell got real bad, and started having starting problems as if the pump was failing. Brought it back in and have been in a loaner for the last 8 weeks. They even parked my car in a covered area out of the sun.

My car had been sitting around the dealer since the 10th of February with no ETA on gas tanks. Received a note on Monday that the tank arrived without warning. Hoping the car is done this week. It's been too long!

Just got a call from Autobahn Motors in San Mateo looks like they "repaired" the leak without the new parts. I am to drive it in the repaired condition until the parts come in. What do you guys think? Did they really fix the gas pooling issue, or should I just not fill it up all the way until the new parts come in?
