That's some BS. I had my exhaust welded where I had the secondary cats deleted. My dealer did not charge me....

They told me exactly same thing. I asked him how much it will be as i don't want to be surprised later with the bill, he said around $250.

Well, picked up my buddies car from the dealer yesterday. Got a new tank, and everything that goes in or on it pretty much. Took about five weeks since they were waiting on some parts from Germany i guess but at least it got done, for free.

Any advise on this? For the 3 years I have owned mine I never filled up hoping to avoid this issue until there was a resolution. Now if I can't just get it done I will have to start filling up and get this issue to start.

^^ Last time I filled mine completely, it started to reek of gas (horrible). Like you, I have always avoided going full tank, usually 3/4. I've become an expert of knowing when to stop at any level hahaha. Except back in Dec & Jan when gas prices dipped

Honestly, keep it full as much as you can & I'm sure it will start going bad (i.e. crack) in no time

Would anybody recommend me filling the tank completely before I bring it in? I just want to make sure they don't try to feed me some bs. My car reeks if you fill it....

Yes fill it to the brim, drive up and down some hills, then pull the rear seat and check under the passenger access door. Take a few pictures of the leaking sender, so you can show them photos if they give you hell.

Make sure they replace tank, sender, and fuel pump.

Although I would wait to bring it in. Wait until parts supply has caught up, otherwise if they have to wait on parts they will try their hardest to deny. Plus after parts supply catches up, you'll get the latest and greatest design (and not old inferior design like I got)

Who is still waiting on parts? It took 6.5 weeks for them to fix my E55, but I brought it in at the start of parts supply becoming back ordered.

Read the thread. If VMI says "tank" (which if you have an E55 then almost certainly will), then everything needs replacing. Dealer may give a loaner, but if parts are back ordered then you will have to fight fight fight to get anything. I had to tow my car to a different dealer after the first refused to do anything except replace the sender (and I had to fight for just that),

So check engine light came on while waiting in the drive thru. When I got home from work, put my scanner on and pulled a p0456 out of it. I have been filling my tank and get no fuel smell in the cabin. do i qualify with just a code? Read through the whole thread and don't know the answer.

It part of it - whatever you do - DO NOT clear the code before taking it to the dealer.

If I recall, that decodes to "small evap leak". If you aren't smelling fuel it might just be a bad gas cap. Check that first.

You aren't getting free parts from MBZ without an obvious fuel smell.

I checked the cap and it looks good. Also pulled up the rear seat and checked the fuel pumps and no visible signs of leaking. just a very faint gas smell that I could breathe in.

P0444 is usually evap code from the gas tank or pumps because there is loss of pressure. I got that code with blinking gas light and then fuel smell followed a few days later

Anyone have this issue and gone to a MB dealer in the NY/ Long Island Area?
I'm curious if they are willing to fix it with no BS blow back.

I Just got my 04 E55 yesterday, filled her up, and there it is.
stinks like gas.

On that note, can anyone recommend a good indy shop in the NY area?
Ideally I would like someone who knows and deals with AMG's often.

Thanks Fellas!

If your asking for the fuel leak repair, just to go a dealer. That way MBZ has less chance of rejecting an "Indy" diagnosis and screwing you on the repair.

Make sure the the SA writes the words "fuel smell" on the repair order... VERY IMPORTANT FOR REIMBURSEMENT.

What model? E55? What part numbers did they put in? It'll list the parts on the repair invoice.

Yes 55. Ill have to get back to you when I check invoice at home, but I was told (by service writer) everything that involves the tank which means the tank, sending units, filters and the hole 9. Standby for clarification!

I filled mine up to the brim this morning. Pulled into the service area and told the guy to leave it running. The gas smell filled up the ENTIRE service area. My SA came out and said he is ordering a new tank/senders now.

When I walked back out the valet was standing next to my car with two fire extinguishers staring at it
