Race Start? How to steps please
I searched the forum, but failed to find any instructions on how to do a race start.
What I understand is that you turn off traction control, turn the dial to "RS", firmly hold down the brake pedal and floor the engine. That's where my knowledge ends.
I saw something that the car launches after 8 seconds. Does this mean that there is a delay of 8 seconds after you release the brake?
Does Race Start help control wheel torque so there is less spin out versus if you just floored the car off the line?
I don't track the car. I just want to know how to get off the stop line at max speed.
Thanks,

Cut/Paste from Page 203 of the manual:
Activating RACE START
X Depress the brake pedal with your left foot and keep it depressed.
X Turn the drive program selector clockwise until the RS lamp lights up.
The RACE START Confirm: Paddle UP Cancel: Paddle DOWN message appears
in the multifunction display. If the activation conditions are no longer
fulfilled, RACE START is canceled. The RACE START Canceled message appears in the multifunction display.
X To cancel: pull the left steering wheel paddle shifter (Y page 172).
or
X To confirm: pull the right steering wheel paddle shifter (Y page 172).
The RACE START Available Depress gas pedal message appears in the
multifunction display. If you do not depress the accelerator
pedal fully within two seconds, RACE START is canceled. The RACE START Not Possible See Operator's Manual message appears in the multifunction
display.
X Fully depress the accelerator pedal. The engine speed rises to approximately 3,500 rpm. The RACE START Release brake to start message appears in the multifunction display. If you do not release the brake pedal
within five seconds, RACE START is canceled. The RACE START Canceled
message appears in the multifunction display.
X Take your foot off the brake, but keep the accelerator pedal depressed.
The vehicle pulls away at maximum acceleration. The RACE START Active message appears in the multifunction display.
RACE START is deactivated when the vehicle reaches a speed of approximately 30 mph (Canada: 50 km/h). Drive program S+ is
activated. SPORT handling mode remains activated.
RACE START is deactivated immediately if you release the accelerator pedal during RACE START or if any of the activation conditions are no longer fulfilled. The RACE START Not Possible See Operator's Manual message appears in the multifunction display.
If RACE START is used repeatedly within a short period of time, it is only available again after the vehicle has been driven a certain distance.

To get into RS mode fast, here is what I do:
1-drive in ESP sport/manual mode
2-left foot brake to a stop (takes some practice...)
3-turn dial to RS (one notch since already in manual)
4-confirm with up paddle
5-floor it
6-release brake
after some practice you could be ready to lunch in a couple of seconds after coming to a stop.

Super easy, just drive with ESP sport all the time and it eliminates that one extra step..
While we're on the subject, is ESP in this car different that in the M113? In my E55 or CLS55 driving with ESP "off" meant no traction until about third gear. In the manual for the E63 it says to drive with ESP off so that the tires can dig in and get maximum grip. Why the drastic difference in the two cars?

Ok I can't even get the The thing to light up the RS it didn't engage at all.
What am I doing wrong?? Turn on sport, turn dial to RS (which will not work) confirm with paddle,(never can get to this step) then hold break and gass at same time.
How do I just get the dial to work and go into the mode at all????

Do everything you are doing but you have to start from Park. So:
Put the car in Park (press that stupidly designed button) and then you can engage. Do all the steps you describe AFTER you put it in drive.
On a side note, I think there's a microsecond of delay from releasing the break to actually moving. I've done RS several times and it almost feels faster just mashing the pedal in M mode, ESC spot, and whatever suspension setting you want. You get the full range of RPM versus just starting at 4K or whatever it is. Either way, it's a beast and a half.

What stupidly designed button? The park button?
So your saying I need to be in park to get it into race mode at all?
That's so dumb. Go to park then do to drive? I'm confused more now.

You dont need to start from park... If its not going into rs mode with previously posted procedure it's either the car is not ready for rs (not warm enough...) or the system is not working.

Yes, I am, sorry it took me so long to get back to the thread. Internet is spotty is Mexico. Original contra code, but I struggle to remember what it got you. Although, a damp parking lot with traction on sport, should have no problem with a couple neck snapping doughnuts!

Ok this may help you,
-Car needs to be in sport
- *** when u press the brake pedal make sure to press it as hard as you can to the floor.
(This is what did the trick for me every time)******
-turn to Rs
-right Lever to engage
- gas pedal

I'm wondering how many posts this thread will have, with each effort being slightly (or totally) incorrect or otherwise omitting a step(s).
Each and every one of the linked thread has the absolute correct procedure.

I just went to the Dragstrip and used Race Start 5 times in a row going in the staging area.
Here is how i did : Start the car, put Traction Control in Sport mode, Trans in S+ or M, advance in the staging lane, no burnout going direct to trip the first yellow light on the tree, with foot on brake advance to trip the second yellow light and stop, then quickly turn the trans knob to RS, (display will show up) press the UP paddle, (display will show up) floor the throttle and release the brake on the last yellow and Voila ! I found that the car is still slow to react, so to get a better reaction time I would anticipate the last yellow light on the tree. I got a best of 11.90 at 123.5 mph on the 255 winter tires.
