2023 e63s pad/rotor replacement options

Hi anyone have any recommendations on which pad and rotors to replace? im looking to avoid brake dust and and my car is about 800hp

Powerstop carbon ceramic pads. There’s a few posts on here about them. 98% less dust than stock pads.

Don't forget these as an option...I went this route as I too wanted more confidence to balance out the power increase on my car

how did you feel the OEM/factory brakes were less effective than your new set up? Curious your impressions

Effectiveness is hard to accurately define without real data - but my seat of the pants driving of the car between old setup and new, and putting the car through a full day of hard driving on and around the tail of the dragon...there is absolutely no fade in my new setup, and the stopping distance feels much shorter. And the brake "feel" never changed throughout the day...may be as much to do with the upgraded fluid I'm running as much as the rotor/pads themselves. As an engineer for GM told me, it is not the brake fade that is the issue (even in OEM). THe real issue is how do the brakes react in an EMERGENCY situation is where the OEM engineering dollars are directed to. They sink multi millions in R&D with data to back it up (usually 2-3 different systems collecting data) to make sure the brakes work whether it is Ayerton Senna driving or mah and pah from down the street.

I'm really glad @PeterUbers asked the question, and even happier that you gave a detailed explanation. For everyday use around town, bigger brakes mean absolutely nothing. But in your use case big brakes mean everything. Most people don't take time to understand the distinction and reasons why a brake upgrade makes sense or not. No AMG car is leaving the factory with brakes that can't adequately stop the car in normal driving situations, and even emergency situations. But track driving is a different animal, something 99% of us will never do. Enjoy being the 1%er' who does

It can also be a lifestyle thing. Most any car can handle an emergency braking situation....and then have PLENTY of time to cool again before another instance of needing the brakes. We have heavy cars (fact is we do). So, say your not a track guy but like "spirited" driving in place like Tail of the Dragon or live in a mountainous area. Well, then the gains can be more "real world". Me, I live in FL and I just dont need to hit the brakes @ 90mph while going down a 15% grade for six miles....other folks? Well, that is heading to the office.

excellent points. You're exactly right, that's why I asked the question, these brakes are prodigious from the factory and most would want for nothing. Certainly if the application changes and you become that 1% then you definitely wanna consider an upgrade. If simply on the basis of getting a tune for some spirited driving on the weekend, makes you think you wanna get upgraded brakes ... then perhaps it's not as simple as you would think.

Increased horsepower thanks to a tune does not simply correlate with needing bigger breaks unless there's more context/nuance to this, and I'm sure the original poster will comment on his application of his current ride, and he certainly may have a legit need for better brakes or simply like some of us we just ... want what we want despite the overt lack of need for it - after all we are driving AMG's. Even a Camry eventually finishes a 1/4 mile or gets to 60mph from 0 ... eventually.

I concur that what Mercedes-Benz refers to as the AMG® High Performance Composite Braking System on the W213 E63S is more than adequate for street use. Both front and rear discs are two-piece with steel friction surfaces and aluminium hats.

For those seeking performance improvements, higher temperature pad materials are available more than capable of handling street or even light track use. The two options I am familiar with - front only - are Ferodo DS2500 (FCP4711H) available from FCP Euro and Brembo HP2 (07.D435.19) available via mail order from ML Performance. Unfortunately, one does not get something for nothing and both with provide lower braking performance when cold and may be noisier when cold.

For those with or considering Ceramic Composites, Essex Parts has an interesting take on Ceramic Composite disks - here. They do sell replacements for ceramic disks with AP Racing 2-piece Iron J Hook Discs so worth keeping that in mind.

I put Powerstop carbon ceramic pads front and rear on my car and have reduced brake dust to almost imperceptible levels. My car is an 18 S63 Sedan. With OEM pads I could literally see the brake dust within 20 miles of driving after cleaning. I hated all the brake dust. I swapped them inn May/June of 2024 and have NOT needed to take time to wash the wheels since then. I've had 2 nice car washes, and one kind of "ok" wash (hurried to beat the rain) and didn't spend any special time, technique, or products on the wheels. My wheels always look great, even when the rest of the car doesn't.
