This, as you may or may not have guessed, is a classic Mercedes 300SL. And we can forgive you if you didn’t immediately recognize it, since this has to be one of the worst examples of a 300SL ever.

The Mecum auctions are some of the year’s best chances to get your hands on a classic Mercedes-Benz. This year’s auction is no exception. Here are three fine examples from the Stuttgart company.

The 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing originally owned by the Hollywood legend Clark Gable which was featured in the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction on January 19. Both Clark Gable and the car itself are icons of their time. It was expected to sell for over $2 million at the auction, but bidding stalled at $1.9 million. The car was not sold due to the reserve it carried. But later on, it was eventually sold for $1.85 million.
