I'll let you know weather that campaign will apply to the E500 or not. I'll be picking up my car from the dealership tomorrow. They been working on this SBC campaign(pulsation damper) and I did mention about this campaign(2008020001.)

Got my car back from them. My SA told me this doesn't apply to my car. I think he's pulling a fast one on me. From what I am getting off of these dealership, they seem like does care too much about doing recall campaign. Unless you have the DTB. Suck...man

Service Campaign 2008040004 MAY08 MY07 211 & 219 the brake fluid reservoir cap indicates DOT4 not DOT4+ the dealer will replace the cap and covering. Approximately 35,136 vehicles affected.

I purchased my 03 E500 Sport last year and from reading this forum it seems I should have done my homework first. With that said, I really like the car and haven't had any problems, YET. How do I go about starting the process of checking if this car has had all of it's recall work completed. It would seem that the dealer would try to get-out of as much of this work as possible. In that case, how am I to combat this?

Request a free VMI (Vehicle Master Inquiry) from any MB dealer. The VMI will list the service campaigns and recalls performed on your vehicle, your VIN will show what is pending.

The SBC hose replacement is only performed on customer complaint.
It is NOT a recall and it is NOT a Service Campaign.
It will only be free if your car is still under warranty.

w211 2003 E320 air suspension issues, freaking nightmare
I really wish that benz would do a major recall on the airmatic suspension, there are so many folks on this forum alone as well as the second benz forum that end up spending major bucks on the suspensions of these newer mercedes cars, my car is a 2003 with only 63k miles, and i had a front air spring go out, my car has been sitting for the last 3 weeks as i get the "Car to low to drive" error on the dashboard, my car is now out of warranty and the estimated repair is $1400.00, I have been waiting to scrape up the money for that front airspring, now the whole damn car is sitting dumped to the ground, talk about frustration....Benz just aint what they used to be, i would have never expected such problems from a newer car with low miles to have such costly repairs...a huge disappointment i tell you....So any suggestions and or help would be greatly appreciated.....

Safety Recall 2008070001 JUL08 – MY2003-09 164,164.8, 171, 203, 204, 209, 211, 215, 216, 219, 220, 221, 230, 251, 463 Recode the SCN (Software Calibration Number). Between 4/15/08 - 4/17/08 and 6/5/08 – 6/10/08 a temporary failure occurred in the computerized on-line Workshop Systems. Due to this failure, some on-line inquiries from the MBWS may have been answered with incorrect SCN coding data. Depending on the MY and model, the results can affect a number of vehicle safety and emission functions including:
- Fuel gauge readings may be incorrect
- Stuck fuel level sensor may not be displayed in the IC
- OBD system may cause the Check Engine Light to illuminate incorrectly
- Speedometer may be out of tolerance
- In the event of a crash, the electrical fuel pump may not receive a crash signal as designed that is required for the fuel pump to disconnect and prevent further fuel delivery
Approximately 409 vehicles involved. Owners of affected vehicles will receive a letter from MBUSA. Rather than waiting for a letter, I would suggest calling your dealer and have them check VMI to see if your vehicle is included.

Can you refresh my memory what the numbers after the '.' stand for in the various model info (i.e. 211.xxx)? I can't seem to find an explanation, though I thought I had read what those mean before somewhere.

Can you give us some more information about the radiator defect that causes coolant to enter into the transmission? I had this failure on my 2003 E500 over a year ago but my MB warranty covered the cost of replacing the radiator and the transmission torque converter but the transmission was not replaced. My MB warranty ends in Jan 2009 and I'm concerned about the radiator failing again or the transmission failing after the warranty expires. Also, I've seen several posts on MBWorld Forum complaining that they had to pay for this same problem since they no longer had warranty coverage and some folks are planning to file a lawsuit again MBUSA to get reimbursed for their out of pocket expenses for this radiator and transmission failure problem. Seems like an inherent design and manufacturing defect in the 2003 E500, maybe other years and models that MBUSA should cover by issuing an extended warranty for 10 years.

Noise on full lock (transfer case?)
My wife's 2005 E500 wagon (X177700) has a rubbing noise when the wheel is turned to full lock in either direction. The local independent says this is addressed via a "transfer case defect" campaign from MB but the local dealer claims not. I've been through this thread but the only reference to transfer case seems to be for E55s? Further complicated by the fact that I don't know the proper suffix designation for an E500 wagon so can't properly determine applicable issues. Anyone else have similar problems and/or know of a bulletin or recall that addresses this? Much thanks.
BTW, I agree w/ previous poster wrt MB should do something about Airmatic strut issues. Ours had one leak, thus low corner. Then pump burnt out trying to pump it up. $3k and 4 weeks waiting for parts on a car with 60k miles is ridiculous.

In addition, X177700 lists in Service Campaign 2006040004 JUL06 Clean sleeves on front axle carrier and install new bolts/washers.
Have your MB dealer run your VIN in VMI to confirm your vehicle is included. Mention S-B-46.00/49a MAR08 Diagnosing steering conditions (sluggish, play, noises, vibrations, leakage).

Hi,
A month ago , i arrived in Venezuela with my E 220 CDI AUTOMATIC 2008 wich i bought in Spain this Year
Here in Venezuela there is not Ultra Low Sulfure Diesel, only normal diesel , could any one tell me if with this fuel is Ok for my MB ?
Any one has the diesel fuel specification that my car shoul use ?

My wife's E500 has keyless go, and it will not work on the driver's door. You can't open the driver's door without disarming the alarm and you can't lock it with the lock button on that handle. Every other handle works. Does this recall cover this? If so, can I get a refund on the $200 that the MB dealer charged for the diagnosis of this? I didn't let them finish because they said they weren't finished with the diagnosis and it was going to cost more just to figure out what the problem was. I'm not too happy with this dealership, and I'm considering finding another one.

2007100004 Transfer Case BS
I've been arguing with MB for a couple weeks now. Wife's E500 wagon has grinding/rubbing noise from transfer case at slow speed turns where large differential in turning radius left to right, i.e. transfer case clutch pack is shot. This is a well kept 60k mile car. Clearly this is the issue covered by 2007100004 but VMI for our car shows it is not included. Interestingly, that TSB doesn't give VIN ranges, only Transfer Case Serial Number ranges. Dealer put the car on the rack and claims our case's serial number is not covered. No love from dealer or MB Customer Care. And this is our second e-class 4Matic wagon. Only offer is to split parts 50/50 but they are padding parts costs to the point where that's only worth a couple hundred bucks. I can get the transfer case from a local independent for $2500 and they want to charge me half of $4000, plus $600 for fluid, plus labor.
I'm of the opinion that our car is exhibiting the same symptoms as the other cars covered by 2007100004 and there's no reason for a part like this to fail so early with no abuse for any reason other than manufacturer defect. But they're stone-walling me. Any tips on how to get them to be more open minded would be useful.
