BRAKE Pad, Rotors, & Calipers Discussion Thread (OEM, aftermarket, etc...)

Another trick people use is to heat the hub around where the bolt holes are with heat gun or propane torch, makes the metal expand and break the rust bond. Just be careful not to heat the center and melt the grease in bearings. Removing a rusted on rotor is the biggest pain but for me it only happens once because I put a very thin film of anti-sieze paste on the hub after cleaning with emery cloth and caliper cleaner spray.

Rear brake pads on c230
Hey I got a 2003 c230 coupe and I can't find any rear brake pads for it. I was wondering if the 2003 c230 sedan brake pads will work for it, or if a 2002 or 2004 coupes use the same size pads as the 2003. Thanks for the help.

Brakes, Front
Does anyone have any photo's/instructions for performing a DIY brake job on a '06 C230. Also, the cheapest rotor's and brakes I've found are at alleurasion.com. The prices/shipping seem to be the best on the net. Any other sources?

One with 4 wheels
Good Day Mates,
I have a 2006 C230 w/40K miles on it--mostly highway miles from my 100 mile a day comute. My rotor's are showing some signs of wear...i.e. grooves on the face and a small developing lip on the outer edge of the rotor. I did a visual inspection w/o taking the wheel off and was able to see brake pad available. Is there some sort of line or measurement that I need to clue into when inspecting the brake shoes? My question is how do I know when I need to replace my brakes/rotor's? (the light has not come on yet!) Any help with my question and also a DIY brake job would be so greatful! The S.F. dealerships just gouge your wallets for simple maintenace work.
Thanks!
Mike

I would recommend getting new OEM rotors with Porterfield pads. That's the set up I have on now, and it's brilliant.

Finally got them on and wow, these stop so much better than the crappy brakes I had before.
I had to switch the calipers left --> right this gave me the clearance needed for the brake line. It is nowhere near drive shaft. It touches the strut a bit but nothing major.
The only drawback so far is that I have lost my brake wear sensor. I just zip tied it out of the way.
I will take pics Sunday at the Bear Mountain meet.

Sorry man, I didnt know there was a list of people waiting for these.
I didnt do any hard braking yet, but from the short test drive the feel amazing. Wish I had ordered some SS brake lines but oh well.
Cant wait for the meet Sunday.

Are your bleeder valves still at the top of the caliper? Please ensure your hoses are not abraded by the struts.

Yes, the bleeder valves are on top. I think the lines will be fine. I might want to get some SS lines, if I do I'll just have to use an elbow on the caliper to redirect the line.

C230 Brakes '06
Unfortunately, I am just going to do the bare minimum and stick with the same parts that came with the car. I have a 39 month lease w/25mo. already completed. I only have 14mo. more to complete and then I plan on turning the vehcile back in and looking at a purchase vs. lease this time. So I just want to do the job myself and need some instructions/pic's for a front barke job on a '06 C230. Thanks!

The drilled front rotors for my 2005 cost $115 each fom the dealer. One wear sensor at $7.50 and front and rear ceramic brake pads from Morse (from Autozone). It was about the cheapest that I found after searching.

just saw this thread. looking good.
tirerack are filled with idiots. when i got my RE I called and ask them if they can order the 18x9 since they only show 18x8 on their site. they ended up telling me with confidence that BBS does not make the RE in 18x9 for our car. lmao.
