Hit a deer on Sunday
Hit a deer in "White Lightening" on Sunday afternoon. 90 degrees in the middle of the day. It was crossing the highway right near my grandpa's house where I was headed for a bbq. I was going 50’ish. No damage that I can’t repair myself. No paint/body work will be needed. Just a new grille, lower mesh stuff, horn, horn bracket, and possibly a radiator (some of the fins are a little pushed in- not much more than from when bugs hit it). It's really odd that there's not a single scuff or mark (besides hair and deer juice) on any of the painted surfaces, headlights, fogs, or carbon fiber. On the plus side- I sent that little b@stard straight to hell with a Mercedes emblem on his ***.
What are the odds? I never drive the car- it only has 4k miles- yet I managed to hit a deer.

One thing's for sure- I created a few new strings of cuss words I didn't think existed.
I felt kinda bad though- it was a pretty young deer- it still had it's spots. Had it been full grown, the damage would have been much worse.

Look on the web for pictures of deer collisions. At 50mph you are one lucky man. Usually these things end up with deers *** in place of drivers head

You.....you killed bambi?
j/k
Yeah, I would say you are pretty lucky because every deer incident I've seen is a lot worse than that. Glad to hear you are ok and the damage can be easily fixed.

i went back to the scene of the crime yesterday. i was going to take a picture of the carcus (*sp?) to add to the scrap book of my car. it was gone though- road crew had already picked it up.
one thing that was really wierd though.....i called the state police that way i could get an accident report in case i decided to turn it into the insurance. the guy took all of my information over the phone and said he would have a police report mailed to me in the next couple days. they never came out to look at me or the car. for all they know- i could have been drunk and wrapped it around a tree. i thought that was really odd- especially considering it was the 4th of july weekend- known for drinking/partying.

Sorry about your mishap. Good that you are all OK - just some plastic to replace

You must be lucky. I hit a bobcat (the feline type, not the small construction type) at 50 mph and did $4k damage. It hit below the bumper line breaking the front cover and cracking both the radiator and the AC condensor. Making it worse was that I'd only had the car for 5 hours.

i'm kinda curious if the insurance will pay to replace the radiator. it still functions and doesn't leak- but some of the fins are bent up. the police report showed up yesterday- so i will contact my insurance today.

In my case the radiator was leaking so there wasn't a question, though I did have to pay the difference to get an OEM radiator (at an MB shop no less) as State Farm wouldn't cover it.
My AC condensor was bent a bit, but still fully functional. My advisor took care of getting that replaced by the insurance company. In that instance the non-OEM one didn't fit properly so I got an OEM part.

If it's non-injury, and only your property damaged -no one's fence or the like- a deer hit is a pure "accident", and you'll have more than enough grief dealing with your repairs. When I first heard California's estimated deer collisions per year, I was astounded. I don't recall the number, but I'd never have guessed there were that many of the Giant Woods Rats living here.
My first crash was with a deer. I've hated the bastiges since.
Most of all, glad you're okay. But still, sorry about the car. Screw the deer.

I went and talked to my insurance guy today. My rates won't go up since it will be covered under the comprehensive part of the policy. He said I was lucky- had I tried to miss the dear and hit a fence or mailbox- that would have been considered a collision, my fault, and my rates would go up. I also asked about the small bends in the radiator. He told me not to worry- anything damaged at all would be replaced, and with Mercedes parts- not aftermarket. Turns out they are pretty nice to you when everything you own is insured there. Between my house and toys as well as my parent's house and toys- we've paid for our insurance guy's retirement
I'm just going to take the check from the insurance, cash it and buy the parts needed to repair it- and do the work myself. I get to keep the extra money that way- and I know everyting was done right. If I can tear this car down like I did, and get it all back together again- this will be an easy fix.

My friend's dad hit a deer going aprox 50mph he said after a week of getting his new E500 couple years back. I went to check the car out, hardly any damage! The grill was a little off, but that was really it in terms of visual damage. The deer went flying past him according to him though...scary stuff.

Having grown up in S. Texas, we had a lot of deer. I was taught that if you are going to hit a deer, speed up. Keeps the animal from going into your windshield.

Freaked out doesn't describe it. I have been pissed off in my life numerous times- but nothing like this. My girlfriend told me the veins in my temples were showing- I don't doubt it. About 3 hours after it happened- my face still felt hot and my heart was still going- I was stewing like never before (and hopefully never again).
I am glad though- that I had the forsight to tell her (the girlfriend) to go away and leave me alone for a few hours. I knew I would say something stupid. A couple days later she thanked me for telling her to go away- she knew I was a bomb waiting to explode
Glad all is well though and the insurance company is going to be pretty cool.

Well keep that in mind incase you DO ever need a police report where they never came out and looked at the car.
