Yeah - pull codes. We seem to be having a spate of wire problems on V6s - FrankW's C32 had wire problems the other day.

You are not going to find the plug under steering wheel exposed, it has a small black plastic door that you need to open in order to gain access to the plug. Just look very well in that area and you will find it.

If fluid levels & temperature is OK you can drive it. Just don't do a 1000 mile trip.

Swap No 2 wire & coil with another cylinder. Mark them so you don't get confused. Cancel codes & go for a run. If the code changes cylinder then you know it is the wire/coil. If so - replace

The coil packs are mounted on the cylinder head covers (rocker boxes) on either bank of the engine with wires going to 2 plugs per cylinder.

okay swapped the first 2 coil packs on the left side of the engine and tested it with the obd reader, it reads O. I started up the car and it sounds fine but there's shaking like something bad is going to happen. ANyways if the OBD reads Zero i'm guessing it's not the coil packs? what should I do now. should swap back the coil packs to the right places and then test with OBD reader again?

Drive the car for a few days & see if a misfire code returns and at what location. Those oil leaks are pretty common. Need new rocker box cover gaskets.

You still need to replace the valve cover gaskets (I did a year ago) you don't want all that oil dripping down on the spark plug wires, exhaust, etc... I would replace the wires and plugs as part of regular maintenance, then check the coil packs after that.

quick question since you guys are talking about plugs. i just did a major tune-up on my car, oil change, tranny service, fuel filter, cleaned MAF, cleaned K&N filter, switched to NGK iridium spark plugs, old ones were bosch, replace battery, replace suspension bushings.

My car is a 2003 c230 sedan 75k miles.

my question: i used to get 23mpg to 27mpg. now i get 16mpg at idle and 19 city and 26 freeway. what could have caused this? spark plugs? MAF? or fuel filter? those are the only possibilities i could think of..

Good - I would replace 1 coilpack, all wires & plugs & do rocker gaskets. They are not leaking badly - a nip up might help them but you are delaying the inevitable. Good Luck

by wires do you mean the ones connected to the coilpack and then to the spark plug part no. 17 on that picture you gave me? if that's the case my dealer quoted me about $70 per wire. WOuld that mean I would have to replace all 12 connector wires? that would be about $840!! again anyone have diy on replacing the gasket?

16mpg at idle? I get 0mpg sitting still.

How long has it been since you did this service and how many tanks have you noticed be this much worse?

Stay away from the dealer for spark plugs and wires. Go to Napa and ask for Bosch replacement wires for your car. The cost about $18 each and they look just like the originals except they don't say Mercedes on it or have the star.
