Bi-X: W203/CL203 OEM Bi-XENON Upgrade, Auto-Levelling & Programming thread
SubscribeUpdate,
I told dealer about it while doing other warranty stuff.
They put in a new sender unit for HID.
The difference is day and night.
Now it's what it should be. My HID was broken since day one.

wow... you ran around with a broken HID for a year not knowing it. I'm sure you're really glad the dealer fixed it. I'm more surprised that they knew what was wrong, and were able to correct it for you. I'm also surprised no one on this forum caught/identified/troubleshot the problem before the dealer did.
Techie question: what exactly does the "sender unit" do for HID lights ?

I agree with many of us here that Merc's Xenon seems not as white/blue as other brands.
I come from Asia and the Japanese cars have MUCH brighter and whiter Xenons.
I was in Los Angels 3 weeks ago and I did notice the Merc's xenons are a bit yellowish and not as bright. For a non-car fan like my sisters, they couldn't tell much difference!
I am getting my C class soon and planning on getting Bi-Xenons if it doesn't come with it. But now I am hesitating. I think I may just buy the "Bi-xenon design" headlamp and upgrade it with aftermarket xenon package.
Frustrating.

I have read much about the bi-xenon lights. What I want to really know from you guys that have bought the lights from Steve of MBenzNL is:
1) Do you have any pics. of the actuall lights he sold to you?
2) When he means "the average flaw is hardly noticeable to something similar that one will see after 1 year of use.". What have you found that resembles a 1 year of use in YOUR lights?
I have read he has sold things to some members, but just using $1,500 of my $$$, the least I can do is some reaserch...Don't you think?
Please help me out since the Bi-Xenons actually look pretty sweet.

pics of the actual BIX lights would be the same as looking at a set of BIX lights on a car. they look the same!

That description, would be the WORST case scenario. I recently got Bi-X from Steve for my C320 COUPE, and I can tell you that they are as new as they can get. No flaws, no scratches, nothing. These are as clean as anything I've seen at the dealership. However, with all that said, Steve still told me that this set was a used set, and that it might have some microscopic scratches or rough surface flaws, like you mentioned. Steve is extremely honest and modest. In my book, these things are PERFECT !! No complaints !
From all the other items / parts I've bought from Steve, shipping is never a problem either. Everything is carefully packaged and wrapped.
And you are extremely RIGHT: Bi-Xenons are SWEET !
- make sure you specify between SEDAN and COUPE, they ARE different sizes.
Here is a pic of what they look like once installed:
And some pics of the Bi-X before install:

got 'em on Saturday. spent most of the day at Mark's chit-chatting about MB stuff, AMG stuff, and SMART stuff... and in the meantime, got these bad boys installed. Figured out how to take the front bumper off, swap out lights & foglights, and put everything back together. Finally, so glad I've got them on.
gotta love the Bi-X !

Saprissa thanks for the info....the was an answer I was looking for. I know they look just like a new pair. The thing is he specifies that they might have a scratch... and investing $1500 in some lights is not that easy. I would be buying a pair soon, just need to convince my dealer to do the instalation since here in Puerto Rico nobody has done that...as far as the dealer goes.
If anyone has anyother replies.....please feel free to enlighten me.
And by the way.....I hope my car looked like yours after the mod Saprissa

After watching the installation on Saturday of my Bi-X, I would now dare to say that it is a do-it-yourself job, or at least for someone who is mechanically inclined. Really, all it took was the removal of the front bumper & grill with bunch of grommets and bolts, unplugging the old lights, replacing them with the new lights, plugging them in. And re-installing the bumper and grill. If you need instructions on installation, I'm sure that Steve will send some, if you ask, when you order your Bi-X. If he was in Puerto Rico, he would install them himself (included in the price).Originally Posted by gabypr

The only thing you will need the dealer for is to set the car's computer to read/understand the new Bi-Xenon lights. That is called setting BIXENON=PRESENT. They will need to plug in the Diagnostic Star computer to your car to do that. At some dealerships in the USA, the Service Rep might do it for FREE, others will charge $10-$25 to do it. It takes less than 3 minutes to do it. You might want to take your Service Rep to lunch or something, and have them do it for you as a favor.

the BIX are definately a DIY job. as saprissa said it just required removal of the front bumper. i took mine off yesterday to install my PTS sensors. 6 screws and a bunch of plastic pegs and it slides right off.
oh yeah and xenon=present at the dealer like carlos said.
you can level them yourself.

Thanks for the pics. I really want to get these BiXenons and talked to BigSis about them. I'm just trying to coordinate so I can go to Chicago and have them installed by Steve when he comes there next (it's a bit of a challenge since I have an unpredictable work schedule). But they look very nice and now I want them even more. Also wanted to get the Comand installed to by Steve.

both are must have's IMO!

Mine had a very minor flaw on the glass, but I probably only noticed because I'm extremely picky. Then again, it's not enough to even bother me and probably not even worth mentioning. Point is, there may be minor flaws, but it's unlikely to be something that you'll notice.

plus there will be more flaws once you start driving around with those on the front of your car!

Rock chips... aaaggghhh !
For that scenario, what you really need, (and I highly recommend it), is to get 3M clear film protection on the Bi-X and foglights immediately after receiving them or before installing them (although you can put the 3M film once they are installed too!). I think there is a site called xpel.com or something like that, that sells this stuff, and they guarantee with $1,000 against headlight breakage. Just make sure to call them if you have a COUPE, because their online ordering system only recognizes the C-Class SEDAN not the Coupe. Everyone forgets about the COUPE !!!

I was going to say.... either Steve gave me a special deal or his price has gone up... but NO, Steve has always charged $1150 for the Bi-X.
You can't beat that price ! Just ask at a dealership how much these things cost.
You'll be begging for a set from Steve !
