Plastic part of the window switch breaking?

Searched three pages and I couldn't find a single instance of this issue, but here goes - I was pulling up to the gate at work today and when I pressed the switch for auto-down on the driver's window... and the damn switch (the plastic part of the actual physical switch, not the electronics part) snapped (mostly) off and came loose inside the switch housing. I was able to push it back into place, but now it's loose as hell and if I push it too hard, it comes springing back out.

Anyway, first off - how does the whole window switch assembly come out of the door? Is it just a pressure-fit sort of deal? Secondly, where can I order a new one? I want to take a closer look, but I'm guessing that it's not repairable. It can't really cost too much for the part, but I can't seem to find it on Parts.com or AutoHausAZ...

Lastly, has anybody else seen this happen? Those little switches seem(ed) remarkably durable, but I guess I'm mistaken. TIA for any advice.

Yep, that's the same thing. Discovered that it's manageable on the way home, but I'd definitely replace it if it's not too expensive from some OE distributor. Anybody with a part # or anything? I can't find that thread with the big list of P#'s...

Same. All others fine but drivers window button, funny it only 'popped' out a few weeks ago.

Jturkel - our cars seem to have the exact same problems lol, frustrating.

YUP same here. Driver side window up switch could go anytime if I'm not careful or if someone else driving the car isn't aware.

Parts are available though, but the R & R is the question.

The R&R is easy. You need to remove the door panel, which is not complex at all. The switch as an assembly is easily removed from the panel itself.

window switch has been known to fail. if you can't find them online you'll have to make do with dealership a-holes.

last ditch effort you can check rmeuropean.com to see if they have it

Yeah, that's what it was looking like today, when I poked around for a bit. Put some of my old car audio install know-how to use

I'll call a dealership or two on Monday and update you guys with a part number/price, in case you're interested.

It's not feasible... something like $400+ for the whole unit. I'm gonna see if I can find a European-only junkyard or something, lol!

I posted this same issue a few months ago. Exact same problem. No responses.

Found the entire switch assembly online for pretty cheap. Haven't pulled the trigger yet.

I currently cannot use the drive thrus !
if i do... i will have to open my door to speak to the drive thru people.

this is probably a design defect... as it only occurs on the driver side button like wtf

Awesome! Thanks for the link, man! As per taking the door panels off, it doesn't look entirely too challenging, even with the terrible looking AllData graphics.

If I pull the trigger on it, I'll let you know for sure. I'd even do a step-by-step instruction guide on it with pics, of course

pulling the door panel is easy. removing the switch is even easier after that.

Friggin' hydraulically filled motor mounts. Grrrr. Mine are going too.

But for some reason this stupid switch bugs me. And my seat heater. Blah.

i had the same issue on my 2002 c240.. i found the master switch on ebay for $35 from LKQ recyclers.. i dont recall taking the door panel off, if your careful you can pry it out with a small flat nose screw driver.. but i do remember that i couldnt disconnect the harness from the switch and the switch i bought had been cut off which lead me to believe that its all one piece.. i just crimpted the wires together, took me no longer than 30 minutes..
