Gonna see if I can slap this thing in real quick. Then I will post pictures of the burnout patch I'm gonna lay in my garage, through the living room, onto the deck, and into the back yard. Should be fun.

Or maybe I'll wait till tomorrow to install and update.

Ok,

Installed it in 6 minutes flat. Just needed a 10mm socket and and the whole gas pedal assembly popped out. Put the sprintbooster inline with the connector that was alread there and voila!

Anyway, I'm glad to announce that the car and house are still in one peice. I only drove in the neighborhood for 1/2 mile but my initial knee-jerk reaction was WOW it's a whole new car. As many people have posted after installing this contraption, this is how the car should've felt from the factory. I will post a more detailed description tomorrow after I drive to work in traffic. But as of right now, I'm very, VERY happy with this latest mod.

More to come tomorrow morning.

Let us know the deal. How it does at WOT and at the low end. All that. I have always thought it was worthless, but if it gets the butt dyno excited i may try it.

so this sprintbooster thingamajiggy eliminates the lag that is a characteristic of the drive by wire? i understand that it doesn't add HP...but you get an instantaneous response?

Alright, here's the thing with this thing-a-majiggy....

It ABSOLUTELY increases throttle response. No if's and's or but's about it. I was the biggest skeptic about this thing and was sure I was turn right around and sell it. It's quite manageable in traffic and there is no doubt you will drive faster with this thing. Just no way around it. AT W.O.T. things are different now. It seems after 3/4 pedal, there's not much there. You're basically at W.O.T at 1/2 to 3/4 pedal. So, could you achieve the same results by just flooring the damn thing? Probably. But you know that delay you get when you floor the car? It just doesn't exist with this thing anymore. I mean, you get instant throttle response as soon as you touch the throttle. At this point, I have to recommend it. I may change my mind later and you can't hold me responsible.

As for you E55/63 AMG guys, I'm not so sure. Your cars have such unbelievable low end torque that this thing may make your car pretty hard to drive. I know of one E55 guy that has it and loves it though

Here's the technical on it:

The ECT system (Electronic Throttle Control) – also known as drive-by-wire – has the unfortunate downside of delayed throttle response and subdued acceleration, creating problems in certain circumstances such as up-hill starts, quick gearchanges, overtaking, etc.

Sprintbooster is a device that improves acceleration by continuously measuring and converting the digital signal provided by the ECT’s potentiometer, and providing the ECM with a new and altered signal.

Hey Benz-O-Rama,

Can you compare the responsiveness of your MB with Speedbooster to the driving characteristics of your Jag S-Type R in sport mode? I have an S-Type R, as well as an MB, and I find that the Jag's sensitivity in sport mode is just about perfect. I might want to add Speedbooster to the Mercedes but I wouldn't want any more sensitivity than the Jag.

Also, can you compare the MB with Speedbooster to the MB after doing the ECU reset trick?

I noticed that only E500 guys are doing this mod. Is this mod available for the E350's?

1. E500 w/ sprintbooster vs. S-Type R in sport - My Jag in sports mode felt pretty much the same in comfort. Just the shift points were different. I know the Jag is a tick faster but the E definitely feels faster now. The throttle tip-in will be much more sensitive on the E w/SB than the Jag.

2.E500 w/ sprintbooster vs. ECU reset - No comparison, I've done both. The ECU reset mildly affects the throttle response whereas the sprintbooster totally re-maps the throttle curve. I can't stress enough how different the car feels now. I'm not saying it's for everybody, it's not. If you're somebody that just leisurely motors down the road, listens to classical music, stops at yellow lights, and always let's the 'other guy' in front of you, then I would say pass on this.

Yep, available for ANY Mercedes. Actually, as far as I know, I'm the only E500 that has done this. This is mostly done by the 6 cyl C-classer's

Search in some of the C-Class forums...you'll finds boat loads on threads on this item.

Jangy,

I have the s/b for my E55... Its pretty bad ***... As you know I have K1 also... SO I had the ECU redone by kleeman... Let me tell you its a different beast with the s/b. Just as clay said above...past 3/4 gas, the car is no different but up to 1/2 of the gas pedal its rediculous. Stays in gear and instant responsiveness..... The E55 has much more torque so i hardly drive in Sport mode around the city... i put it in C mode and it drives just perfect with the responsive throttle response... I would highly recommend it... i actually persuaded clay to purchase it...looks like he's pretty happy!

You want to PM a member on here (SLKFANS). That's where everybody seems to be getting theirs. He (Dean) will give you a website address where you can pay for it. It will arrive 1 week later, most likely.

Benz-O-Rama,

I'll be interested after you have used it for awhile if it has any effect on your gas mileage.

Also, although not trying to be a naysayer, I'd imagine on snow/ice covered roads your traction control will be coming on more often.

No need to have it for a while, I can tell you right now my gas mileage is going down the pooper for sure. But who cares. It's fun to just give it 1/8 throttle, have it kick down and be doing 90 mph in the blink of an eye. It's addicting, I know my mileage is gonna suck.

As for the snow, you're probably right. In comfort mode, you can really modulate the throttle enough that it doesn't feel any different. Hell, I took people for a ride today, and purposely tried to drive the car so it felt un-modded. Nobody was able to tell at all.

Also, on my way home tonight, I had to sit in some major traffic. No problem, I popped it into comfort and all was well. I thought for sure before I bought it that in this situation I would surely rear-end someone. It's really not like that.

Still loving it...

I'm gonna try this in the near future too. No power gains, I know, but the car does FEEL much quicker correct? I'm not looking for numbers with this thing, just something to make the butt dyno happier.

That does it. I'm on it. How easy is it to install and uninstall? Any wiring, etc? I would definitely get it if I could take it off when the mood hits.
