how do you know they're 13.6" as apposed to 12.8". Visually, they look very similar.

you're right!!!!! But it also says that the C350 had dual piston fixed calipers, which we know is false.

Just an update to say that my Morse pads have about 10k miles on them and are still dust free and stop great. To the guys looking for the rear pads, I actually met the Morse product Mgr. in person a couple of weeks ago and asked about when the rears would be available and he said that he still did not know. Not sure which pad the poster above is referencing at Auto Zone, but I would bet it is not ceramic, OR the rear brakes are the same as the non sport model but use a different part number????

Anyone know for sure?

Do you guys think it would cause issues changing your own rotors and pads on a lease car? My sister would like me to do hers. Pads and rotors isn't a big deal at all, for me to do the work, I just worry about the lease. Any ideas?

I want to get these Morse pads for my 2006 C230SS because of the dust problem. Do you think I should go ahead and get new rotors, even though I only have 5,000 miles on them?

You should be OK but I always change the rotors and pads together to be safe. Just make sure there are no big grooves or anything that would keep the new pads from bedding properly. I swaped pads on my wifes BMW when it had 700 miles on it, and 30,000 miles later they are still fine.

I have a 2005 c230 coupe.
I've been trying to get brake pads for it, but am asked if I have the sport suspension. I don't know. I've searched this forum and have actually found multiple conflicting replies on this. My parts dealer told me I can tell if I have the sports suspension if I have cross drilled rotors. A forum member said they are all sport suspensions.
How do I visually determine if my 2005 Coupe has the sports suspension or not?

Wow, this is a ton of useful information. So much to know behind every component of a car aside the vital components. I've read through several pages of this thread and even did I search, I can't seem to find what I'm looking for. I have a 2003 C230 Kompressor Sport Sedan (The 1.8L Supercharged engine - known as M271 I think). I'm trying to find ceramic brake pads for the front and so far the closest I've read on it is that Akebono doesn't make any for my model. I tried google-ing for the brake pads and searching other place but I only get results with really generic sounding brands that don't inform you if it's even ceramic or not. Does anybody have any suggestions or can someone point me in the right direction?

Caliper bolt stuck

I was trying to change my front brake pads earlier today but failed due to a "stuck" caliper bolt. I tried extremely hard to unscrew it with a ratchet but couldn't even move it. I put WD-40, I beat the end of the ratchet with a mallet but neither worked. How do I move this thing?! The bottom bolt came off relatively easy. The top won't budge.

You can pop in the pads without unbolting the caliper. Just pull the pins & shove back the pistons carefully with a screwdriver.

Ah, I have heard that on another site. Most places I've read say to remove the caliper so thats why I tried to, but if I can do without it thatd be nice.

Do a quick search on this. There are several DIY threads, with pictures.

Glyn is correct. The easy and only way to change pads is to remove the pin. If you remove the reverse torx, you are screwed, big time.

If it is a sliding caliper you must remove the slider bolts and take the caliper off. That is the proper way and replace the pads that are in the bridge. Make sure you service and clean the pad sliding surfaces (stamped stainless steel) and lubricate with brake grease or anti-seize paste. In addition the slider bolts must be lubed with the proper brake grease (a high temp copper based grease). Make sure the small rubber boots are put on correctly

It is a fixed caliper (dual or 4 piston) you remove the retaining pins and slide out the pads.

The rear calipers are a fixed dual piston and you have to drift out the pins and the pads slide out

the C240 uses a slider caliper, a C32/C55 is a 4 pot fixed caliper; the C230/C320/C350 with sport package on the sedan uses a fixed caliper that is a 4 pot or 2 pot depending on the year

My standard 240 has fixed calipers - Maybe South African build is different & mine was a crossover car just before facelift. It's not Sportpack however.

I know the rear slides right out, but for the front you have to take off the caliper. the rear's fixed, but the front's sliding caliper.

this is for 01-04 C230/240/320 with standard brakes.

along with mig888 we were helping another member changing the pads on the front brakes on a 2003 C230 coupe. removing the front caliper was necessary. we also had a tough time removing the caliper bolts because of the dirt, brake dust, rust, etc. it took a LOT of elbow grease, a LOT of WD-40, and a LOT of time before the bolts even budge.

My car is obviously different. Pads just changed. Watched the job at the dealer. Did not take calipers off. Thanks Frank. I don't want to confuse people.

Another thing - when reading brake threads on the forum I note that Drex & others talk about there only being 1 brake pad wear sensor. Well my car has 2 on the front - one on each wheel obviously. Don't know about the back. Still lots of life on original pads so never changed.

True! If it doesn't loosen up, try a lot of WD40 and a breaker bar. It will eventualy give...

problem with a breaker bar is that they are too long to use for the top bolt. but there is one thing that I realized when I went to harbor freight to buy some tools... I only have SAE sockets and MB uses metric. It wasnt too good of a fit now that I think about it. I bought a metric set and ready to try tomorrow, I hope I didnt screw up the edges of the bolt :\
