Here is the sheet that defines the spec. In this case it's 325.6. The link below has all the various approved products. I use the Zerex G40.

Hi Joe - you posted the information in the thread on replacing the inner track rod (tie rod) and outer tie rod, but it was for w212's with hydraulic steering. I'm not sure if that applies to cars with electric steering. Can you take a look based on my VIN to see if WIS lists the steps for the inner and outer rods? My VIN is WDDHF7GB7EA984434.

I really don't understand your request. To my knowledge all 2014 E63s have the same steering system. Where are you getting your info regarding electric versus hydraulic??

I don't think I understand the steering system. I assumed it was electric since there is no power steering fluid reservoir. Are these systems still considered hydraulic?

The system is all electric. It replaced the need for the constantly running hydraulic pump. Regardless, our cars have the 211 option code, which is the electric steering. I believe most MB cars since around 2011 moved to electric. Any WIS docs I posted should be right assuming they were for model year 2014.

Rear differential fluid

Hi Joe,

Can I have the instruction for rear differential fluid change please? If possible, I would like to know what kind of fluid and part numbers for the drain & fill plugs as well. Thank you so much.

Attached is the procedure. However, the procedure tied to your VIN indicates you have an LSD which is option code 471. Your datacard does not have the 471 listed. So, I'm not sure if you have LSD or not.

The fill and drain plug part number is A3529970032. The other attachment is the MB gear oils spec. You're looking for the 235.61 spec for your 218.374 car. I used the Castrol as per the link below in my car.

Thank you, Joe. I'm glad I've asked. I thought I would need SAE 75W-90. But according to the MB gear oils spec, the correct one would be 75W-140. About the LSD with code 471, how can I find out if I have LSD or not? Does anyone know how to check for this? Thank you.

Not sure what to tell you about the LSD. Your VIN datacard says no LSD, but WIS procedure for the same VIN indicates it's for LSD rear end. Very strange. Perhaps someone else will respond with better info.

I did the wheel spin test. Lifted the car up, put on N, spin the rear wheel on 1 side, the other wheel stayed still. That indicates I have standard differential and the oil specs is 235.7, 75W-85, correct?

Updated: Called MB dealer, provided them with VIN, they gave me Castrol Syntrax Limited Slip 85W-140. I am so confused.

Yes, therein lies the confusion. I researched other 2013 CLS63 and E63 VINs, and all of them in WIS indicate the oil change process is for cars with LSD, even if they don't have code 471 in their datacard! This would be why the dealer indicates the 85W-140 per the 235.61 spec for LSD cars. Your datacard shows the rear end to be non-LSD as your test confirms. What's goofy, it that I can't find a non LSD procedure for any E or CLS, (AMG or not). I even went to the procedures for a standard 2013 E350, and it still points to the procedure for LSD only cars.

Hopefully someone can jump in with knowledge.

Regards,

Joe

Rear main oil leak

Hey joe-
I was gonna see if you could get me info to replace the rear main seal. I think dropping the transmission would be the easiest but not sure on all the specs. It’s probably a lot of info for everything 😬
it’s a 2014 E63 S

While your in there……

I’d do the water pump and plastic cooling lines while your in there. Ifs not a fun job changing the worlds most expensive plastic thermostat the only thing worse would be going back in a month later to replace the water pump and cooling lines……. It’s a thing trust me. If Check all tensioners and idlers while your in there.

Procedure and Datacard attached. The are other procedures listed in the main one. Let me know if you need others

In case you need the part number for the thermostat/housing assembly, it's A2782000615.
