If I was in the market I would do the PPI on it myself. He asked about positioning, I figured he is actually clueless about the lack of knowledge needed to change a rack. When you look at these cars all day long you get an eye for the quality of service done on the car.
He asked this same question (in addition to a lot more asinine ones) in at least two other threads here:

https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-amg-w...-straight.html

https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-amg-w...-tie-rods.html

I don't know if he is just clueless about a lot of things or just likes to waste people's time, but I am seriously starting to doubt that any car he owns is bigger than 1:18 scale.

As for the reputable indie shops, I agree with you completely. Until he started bringing up some really stupid questions and avoided giving rather simple answers, my concern was not with the actual quality of the work but simply the perceived value of a BS car. I know a lot of people that have more real high-end cars than I have shoes, but none of them are wasting their own time asking how easy it is to replace a steering rack and if they could do it themselves. He can afford to use a $100K car as a daily driver and drive it into the ground, but has trouble finding a half-decent shop to service it, and furthermore doesn't know if there is anything wrong with it in the first place (see the other two threads he started)? Something smells like BS here... and I don't mean Black Series but the other more fecal kind.

And yet another (fourth) thread he started on the same subject - except that two months ago it was an indie shop that screwed up, not a dealership. It's getting a little hard for darkus to keep his facts straight.

I completely agree with that, and I never said that they do or that or that I don't like indie shops. See my previous reply. I was talking about the perceived value of a classic or collector car when it has been serviced by someone at home or on a budget vs. one that has been serviced by a factory trained technician at a dealership. It may have no bearing on the quality of the repairs and condition of the vehicle, but it does on the perceived value of the same by potential buyers. As for this particular issue and the four threads he started, I am afraid darkus lost any whiff of credibility a long time ago and I am convinced we are indulging some troll's infantile fantasy. Have a read on the other three threads I linked and see what you think.

But, wait, seriously though. I can totally put in a steering rack on my back with just hand tools, right? Like, it should just fit one way, so everything should be fine, amirite? Asking for a friend...

Edit: Is there a DIY for fixing a steering rack on here? Maybe some pictures so I can make sure it’s all lined up ok would help. Thanks.

Make sure you unbolt the high pressure line while the car is running.

So you are claiming anyone who owns a c63, let alone a black series is supposed to know how to change a steering rack?

I've never done that and to be honest never would unless I had the correct tools and someone who had done it before with me. I'm just proud I've done my own brakes, sways and springs (in my former BMW days). Just don't have the time these days but I do miss being able to take a Sunday off to do something to the car.

Anywayw this thread has taken a nasty turn with a lot of ego, chips on shoulders, etc.. so I'll bow out. I think I got the answer pretty clearly from knowbenz, re: it's an easy easy job. Thanks for that. Now I have no reservations about Indy.

I actually got an appointment this for next week to tour their shop.

I'll make sure to check out their duct tape quality and see if my scale model fits in their work bench

darkus - for the last time, let me explain it to you in a simpler way that you might understand:

And here's another one about you actually owning a C63BS:

Unless you post your VIN, I am calling BS on you even owning a BS. Please go troll somewhere else... I am sure there's a forum somewhere where you can lie to the other kids as much as you want.

Just go here, some of these posts are comedy gold. https://mbworld.org/forums/search.php?searchid=23925810

And you’ve got it all wrong Doug. He actually got a CLK 63 Black Series in Jan 2014, then sometime around Aug 2014 he ALSO picked up a C63 Black Series. He’s just a super lucky guy!

(he may very well actually have a BS, but if he does the poor car deserves better)

Thanks Jim. Yup, I had a look myself... he apparently also owns a BMW 1M and an M3, as well as a "regular" W204 C63, an R350, a GLC43 (or maybe a 63), a W205 C63 (or maybe a C63s), an AMG GT S and a GL among others. An outstanding contributor to Mercedes, the economy, humanity in general and of course all of us poor SOBs here.

He first referenced the steering issue he is still moaning about here in January of 2013 which was before he allegedly bought the BS. Damn squirrels must have swapped his steering racks from car to car when he wasn't looking. Some of darkus' recent posts about the imaginary cars he owns and is buying are below:

lol why is it so hard to believe someone with a clk63bs would get a c63bs. Actually I know a few others on here who took the same path. Oh yea the clk63 was a DD too before it got retired (seats way too stiff).

Some of those other cars I was thinking of getting, but never pulled the trigger based on opinions of some of the owners. Which you can read in those threads.

I am surprised to see jealousy from ppl here, there are a lot of people with way more money and nicer cars then me on here. Your picking the wrong person to be jealous of. I'm very mid level with my car collection. But I am happy with my cars and feel lucky to have them. The way you talk about never driving a car and keeping it pristine and is a travesty. Especially for a black series, which you've built up a little too much in your head if anything I'd say the clk63bs was more unique special then the c63 given the unique/welded chassis and unique vin. Black series cars (short of the sls) are meant to be driven and used. Sorry if that bothers you. If you ever are lucky enough to own one, I'd recommend driving it and not worrying about the resale value or keeping the miles down. But to each their own.

What will really really make your head explode is I do see sls black series roaming around every so often.

another thing that might make your head explode, I have a set of kw ddc in my garage ready to be installed as soon as another one of my shocks goes bad (one already has). A collectors car with kw ddc. That is the deathknell. But I won't be the first to do that either....

I think some of you may have a personal issue with the TS, I looked at the bottom few of those posts linked and don't see any issue or asinine questions.

TS good luck with whatever route you're taking.

The vast majority of us here are here to help each other and learn from each other have an issue with a troll who is lying and wasting everyone's time with his auto-mastrubatory self indulgence. I am sure there are other forums where he can lie to his heart's content while he jerks off, but this is not one of them. Everything he has written is based on lies and his infantile fantasies. Why would anyone sane continue to indulge him?

That's the thing with people from Toronto... They think the world revolves around them, and don't have a clue about being humble or not saying anything if they have nothing good to say.
Some might say that's hypocritical of me, but someone's gotta say it... It's not like I'm the one who posted 10 times in this thread, nor wasted God-knows how long posting the detailed info of the OP's posts !
Seriously Diablous or whatever your name is - get a grip bud.
Even if you are right, it makes you look like a fool when you waste your own time to research thread history & post info of some "random" on the internet. Almost the perfect example of a troll.

a person who starts arguments, or upsets people on the Internet by posting inflammatory and digressive, extraneous , or off-topic messages...

* BTW, came here looking for info on the steering rack for my c63... Wanna question the validity of me actually owning it ?
